OpenAI is staffing up to turn ChatGPT into an ad platform - and what you should be doing about it now
A New platform is on the horizon.
Hey Agency Owners,
Hope you're having a better Monday than I am. (Steve, my husband is in surgery, I'm camped out in a hospital chair trying to get work done.)
But I couldn't let this slide by without telling you about it.
OpenAI just hired ad engineers from Facebook to turn ChatGPT into an advertising platform.
Not "maybe someday."
Not "we're exploring options."
They're building the infrastructure NOW to let brands run ads directly inside ChatGPT.
Here's what this means for your agency:
The opportunity: 700 million weekly users who are actively asking questions. These aren't passive scrollers - they're people with problems looking for solutions. High-intent traffic doesn't get much higher.
The challenge: Your clients are going to expect you to figure this out. Another platform to learn, another set of campaigns to manage, another billing line item to justify.
The creepy part: ChatGPT knows what people ask when they think nobody's listening. The targeting possibilities are going to be insane. And invasive as hell.
Think about it...
Google knows what you search for.
Facebook knows what you like.
ChatGPT knows what keeps you up at 3am asking "How do I..."
That's targeting data that makes Facebook look like amateur hour.
Why you should care right now:
Even if ChatGPT ads don't launch until 2026, smart agencies are already thinking about this.
Because when it does launch, there's going to be a land grab.
Early adopters will figure out the platform while competition is light.
Late adopters will be fighting for scraps after everyone else has claimed the good placements.
The real question:
Are you going to be ready when your biggest client asks "Can you run our ChatGPT campaigns?"
Or are you going to scramble to figure it out after your competitor already landed the account?
Something to think about.
(Along with everything else you're juggling.)

P.S. This is exactly why I keep saying AI amplifies everything - including your competitive advantages. The agencies who understand AI will dominate the ones who don't.
P.P.S. If you want to stay ahead of this curve instead of chasing it, reply and let me know. I'm working on something that might help.
